Basement mold? Get help from a team you can trust
Take a breath. Most basement mold isn't an emergency, and our assessment comes with no pressure to book.
Some jobs are small enough to handle yourself. The EPA's rough line is about 10 square feet, a patch around three feet by three feet, on a hard surface. Past that, or if the water was sewage, or if someone in the house has asthma, a weak immune system or a new baby, call a professional.
Please don't paint over it. Drylok and "mold-resistant" paint don't stop growth that's already there, and buyers' inspectors find painted-over drywall all the time. I don't like that shortcut. Don't sand it or scrub it dry either. That can throw spores into the air your HVAC may be pulling upstairs.
We're based in Norcross and work across Gwinnett and metro Atlanta. Call when you're ready.
Can we help with the mold in your basement?
Probably. Basements in north-metro Atlanta take on water from red clay that stays wet against the foundation, from summer air sweating on cool block walls, and from the water heater and sump that usually live down there. Here's what people call us about:
- Mold along the bottom of finished drywall, or behind the baseboards
- A musty "old house" smell that a dehumidifier hasn't fixed
- Growth that showed up weeks after a flood, a sump failure or a burst water heater
- Mold on carpet, pad or tack strip, or on boxes stored against the wall
- A small patch you've bleached twice that keeps coming back
- White fuzz on the concrete that might be mold or might be efflorescence
If there's standing water down there right now, start with basement water removal. The mold comes after that.

What our basement mold removal includes
- Moisture mapping. We use moisture meters, a thermal camera and a hygrometer on the walls and floor to find out how far the wet area runs behind the drywall. Growth on the back of a wall is often bigger than the stain on the front.
- Containment. Basements often share ductwork with the rest of the house, so we seal off the work area and run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers under negative pressure.
- Removal. Affected drywall comes out, cut above the highest wet or moldy line. Insulation, carpet, pad and tack strip that are damaged go too.
- Cleaning. Framing and concrete get HEPA-vacuumed, cleaned and sanitized, then cleaned framing gets an encapsulant coating to help stop regrowth. We don't spray it and leave.
- Drying and checks. We dry the structure and confirm with readings and a visual check. If you want clearance testing, an independent third-party company we arrange does it. We never test our own jobs.
Waterproofing, drainage fixes and rebuild aren't automatically part of the removal scope. The rebuild we do ourselves. For waterproofing and drainage, we'll tell you up front what we do and what we arrange.

Who keeps the basement dry, and who removes the mold?
Removing mold doesn't stop seepage. If water keeps coming through the wall, the new drywall will grow mold too.
The water side is often a separate trade. A gutter or grading fix might be all you need. Or it might be a sump, an interior drain or a plumber for a leaking line. Some waterproofing salespeople jump to the most expensive answer. We'd rather show you where the readings point first, so you can get the right quote from the right trade.
Our part is the removal and drying. After the cause is handled, we also do the mold damage repairs ourselves: drywall, flooring, trim and paint. We coordinate the order so walls don't go back up before the water problem is fixed and the framing reads dry.

Who will arrive, and how we determine what needs attention
An IICRC-certified technician from our Norcross office will walk the basement with you, including the utility room and anything behind stored boxes.
How high we cut a wall comes from the meter, not a habit. Some crews flood-cut two feet everywhere. If the readings show water only reached six inches, that's what we'll show you. Drywall that's wet but intact, without growth, can sometimes be dried in place. Insulation that got wet is usually replaced. Carpet depends on how long it was wet and whether there's growth. You'll see the photos and readings before you approve anything.

Clear information about pricing, documentation and next steps
Price depends on the area affected, whether the space is finished or unfinished, what kind of water got in, how much material comes out, and whether moisture fixes or rebuild are part of the job. A single corner and a fully finished basement are very different projects.
You'll get a written scope that lists what we're removing and cleaning, how containment and equipment are billed, and what's not included. You approve it before we start. No tiered menu on the spot.
We document the job with photos, moisture logs and an itemized estimate, which helps with an insurance claim or a future sale. We can't promise what your policy covers, and seepage is a common exclusion. We also won't promise mold never comes back. That depends on keeping the basement dry.

Questions people ask us
My basement smells musty but I can't see any mold. What now?
A musty smell with nothing visible often means growth is hidden, usually on the back of drywall, behind paneling or under carpet pad. It can also just be high humidity. Moisture readings and a look behind a baseboard will usually tell you which one you're dealing with.
Will a dehumidifier get rid of basement mold?
It helps. Keeping the basement below 60% relative humidity, ideally 30 to 50%, slows new growth and often cuts the smell. It won't remove growth that's already on drywall or carpet, and it won't stop water coming through a wall. Run it to a drain or a condensate pump so it keeps working when you're not home.
Is the white fuzzy stuff on my concrete walls mold?
Often it's efflorescence, which is mineral salt left behind as water moves through concrete. It isn't mold, but it does tell you water is getting in. Mold can grow on concrete too, on the dust and film that collect there, so we check before we call it either way.
Can I keep the carpet after my basement got wet?
Maybe, if it was clean water and it gets dried fast, roughly within 24 to 48 hours, with extraction and dehumidifiers. Carpet and pad that already have growth on them usually have to go. Carpet soaked by sewage or floodwater is a different case, and it's generally removed.
Does insurance cover basement mold?
It depends on where the water came from. A sudden pipe or water heater failure may be covered, often with a mold limit. Groundwater seepage is commonly excluded, and a sewer or sump backup usually needs a separate water-backup endorsement. Your policy decides, so check with your agent or adjuster.
