Worried about your belongings? Get help from a team you can trust

Take a breath. Nothing has to leave today, and nothing gets thrown out unless you've seen it on the list and said yes.

Until we talk, don't throw anything away before the adjuster has seen it. If you have to move something, photograph it first. Don't run smoky clothes through the washer and dryer. And don't plug in electronics to test them.

The first step is a walkthrough. No pressure to sign anything. We work from our Norcross office across Gwinnett and metro Atlanta.

Full-house pack-out after a burst pipe soaked both floors

A burst supply line upstairs sent clean water through two floors of a South Atlanta home. The damage was so widespread that the rebuild could not be done with furniture in place, so everything had to come out.

Areas affected

  • Furniture and belongings on both floors
  • Bedrooms, including the master, plus the family room, living room, dining room and kitchen

What we did

  1. Packed out the entire home, which took about five days because she had a lot of belongings
  2. Moved contents out while the crew extracted, removed wet materials and dried the structure in four days
  3. Kept the contents separate on the scope from the water mitigation

Result

The house was cleared for the rebuild, and the contents were billed on their own line, at just under $20,000. Insurance paid for it.

Can we help with the belongings in your home or business?

Most of it, yes. We handle:

  • Smoky clothing you need for work this week
  • Sofas, mattresses, curtains and rugs that hold smoke or got wet
  • Dishes and small appliances coated in soot or grease
  • Electronics that shouldn't be powered on until they're cleaned and checked
  • Wet family photos and papers
  • A renter's belongings after an apartment fire next door or downstairs
  • Everything in rooms that have to be emptied for repairs, even if it isn't damaged

If you rent, your landlord's insurance covers the building, not your things. Your renters policy is what usually pays for your belongings.

Belongings packed into labeled totes

What our contents service includes

  1. Triage on site. We sort what can be cleaned from what can't, and set aside anything that needs a closer look. Medicine, documents, valuables and sentimental items come out first.
  2. Room-by-room photo inventory. Every item is photographed and listed. Each box is labeled with where it came from.
  3. Pack-out. Items are wrapped and boxed, with electronics kept apart from art and documents. A full house takes time. On a recent two-story water loss in South Atlanta, the pack-out ran about five days.
  4. Cleaning by material. Hard goods like dishes get a different method from soft goods like clothing and upholstery.
  5. Deodorizing off site, away from your home.
  6. Secure storage while the house is repaired.
  7. Pack-back. We return everything and you check it against the inventory with us.

Some specialty items are handled by outside specialists, like electronics, fine art and rare books. Wet or smoky papers and documents go to a document recovery partner we coordinate.

And honestly, not everything can be saved. When cleaning won't work or would cost more than the item is worth, we'll say so.

Who inventories, stores and pays for your belongings?

We build the inventory. It's photo-based and room by room, and you get a copy. Survivors say the contents list is the hardest part of the whole claim, often dozens of hours of work. Ours can be the starting point for yours, including the items that couldn't be saved. Add your own photos and anything we missed.

Your things stay in secure storage until the house is ready. You can ask for a specific item while it's in storage.

Who pays depends on your policy. Cleaning and replacing belongings usually falls under contents coverage. Storage may fall under contents or additional living expenses, and some insurers cap it. In some cases you may owe part of the cost yourself.

Before anything leaves your house, you'll get the storage rates and access rules in writing, along with any return-delivery charge.

Contents cleaning in progress

Who will arrive, and how we determine what needs attention

An IICRC-certified technician from our Norcross team walks each room with you. Some of our team speaks Spanish, so the inventory walk can happen in Spanish if that's easier for your family. Clean or replace comes down to the material, how much residue soaked in, what the item is worth, and what you want.

A soot-covered cast iron pan cleans easily. A smoky foam pillow usually doesn't.

Priority items come first: medicine, documents, work clothes, kids' things, family photos. Every box is tracked from your house to storage and back, and you can see the inventory whenever you ask.

Clear information about pricing, documentation and next steps

The cost depends on how much there is, which cleaning methods each type of item needs, how long things stay in storage, and the delivery back. You approve a written scope before pack-out. You approve again, by item, before anything is discarded.

You'll get the photo inventory, a separate list of non-salvageable items with photos, and itemized Xactimate invoices, the format adjusters use. If something comes back not clean enough, flag it and we'll note it for a possible replacement claim.

We can't promise what your policy covers. We bill your insurer directly. If insurance pays less than the invoice, you're responsible for the difference. That's why documentation matters, and why it helps to use a company that works claims with every major carrier, like we do.

Cleared shelves after a pack-out

Questions people ask us

What can usually be saved after a fire?

Hard, nonporous things like dishes, glass, metal and solid wood furniture usually clean up well. Lightly smoky clothing and textiles often can too. Melted plastics, food, medicine and cosmetics are usually thrown out, after they're photographed for your claim.

Can I wash my smoky clothes myself?

You can try with everyday clothes, but a regular washer and dryer often lock the smoke smell in instead of removing it. Don't put anything in the dryer until the stains and smell are gone. For work clothes you need soon, tell us and we'll put them at the front of the line.

What do I do with burned or wet cash?

Don't throw it out. The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing redeems damaged currency for free when more than half of an identifiable note is left. Handle it as little as possible, and leave it in the wallet or box if that's how you found it.

Can wet photos and papers be saved?

Often, if you act quickly. Photos can air-dry face up. Papers that can't be dried right away can go in the freezer, which stops mold until they can be handled properly. Valuable or one-of-a-kind items should go to a conservator.

What if something comes back from cleaning and it's still not right?

Flag it at pack-back. You can ask that an item that isn't satisfactory after cleaning be considered for replacement on the claim. We'll note it on the inventory so it's on record.
