Emergency Board-Up & Roof Tarping in Norcross, GA

A house with broken windows or a hole in the roof is exposed to rain and to anyone who wants to walk in. We cover the openings with plywood and tarps, photograph the damage for your claim, and give you an itemized invoice. Board-up is its own job. Hiring us for it doesn't commit you to us for the repairs.

Property left open? Get help from a team you can trust

If this is after a fire, wait until the fire department releases the property before anyone goes in. After a storm, stay off the roof. Treat any downed line as live, even if the power seems out.

Then call us. We answer 24/7 from our Norcross office and secure homes and businesses across Gwinnett and metro Atlanta.

Can we help secure your home or business?

If it's open to the weather or to strangers, yes. We get called for:

  • Windows broken and a roof cut open by firefighters
  • A tree through the roof after a thunderstorm or tropical storm
  • Wind or hail damage that opened the roof or blew out glass
  • A tornado that tore through the neighborhood
  • A break-in, or a car driven into a storefront
  • A vacant, fire-damaged house that's an easy target for theft

About those broken windows. Firefighters vent a burning building on purpose. Opening windows and cutting the roof lets superheated gas and smoke escape so crews can get inside and stop the spread. It looks awful. It usually limits the damage.

What our board-up and tarping includes

  1. Safety check. After a fire, we can usually be out within a day once the fire department clears the house. We confirm the building has been released, look for downed lines, and check that the structure and roof are safe to work on. No roof work happens in active wind or rain.
  2. Photos first. Every opening and every damaged area gets photographed before we cover it. That's your claim record.
  3. Board-up. Openings get covered with plywood fitted snug to the frame. Particle board and waferboard swell and break apart in the rain, so they don't belong on a board-up. One lockable door stays usable for you and the adjuster.
  4. Tarping. A heavy tarp runs over the ridge and is held with wood battens fastened through it, so wind can't get under the edge.
  5. Interior water. If rain or hose water got inside, we can start water extraction and drying right away.
  6. An itemized invoice with the photos attached.

How much gets boarded or tarped depends on the damage. Not included: tree removal and glass replacement, which are arranged separately.

Temporary protection now, permanent repairs later

Board-up and tarping hold the property until it can be fixed. They aren't the repair.

Hiring us to secure the house doesn't commit you to us for the rebuild. You'll sign an authorization for the board-up only. Permanent repairs come later, under a separate written agreement, after your adjuster has inspected and you've agreed on the scope. You can choose any contractor for that work. If you'd like us to bid it, our reconstruction page explains how.

One Georgia rule is worth knowing. A contractor can't act as your public adjuster, and a roofing contractor can't negotiate your insurance claim for you. Be wary of anyone who knocks on your door promising the roof will be "100% paid by insurance."

Damaged subfloor after a fire

Who will arrive, and how we determine what needs attention

An IICRC-certified crew from our Norcross team walks the outside first. They check the utilities, look for downed lines and sagging framing, and decide which openings need covering. That means every damaged ground-floor door and window, plus anything someone could climb to.

They'll tell you how long the protection is meant to last and who'll check it after the next storm. You'll have the photos before they leave.

Clear information about pricing, documentation and next steps

The cost depends on how many openings need covering and how big they are, how much roof needs tarping, how high and hard to reach it is, and whether the call comes after hours. A single broken door and a two-story roof after a tree strike are not the same job. You sign an authorization for this work only, and you'll see what it covers before we start.

For the claim, you get dated photos of every opening before and after, plus an itemized invoice. Policies commonly expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent more damage, and those costs are often part of the claim. We can't promise reimbursement. We bill your insurer directly.

Doorway at a fire-damaged house

Questions people ask us

Do I have to board up my house after a fire?

In most cases, yes. Homeowners policies expect you to take reasonable steps to protect the property from more damage, and an open window or roof invites rain and theft. If the house sits empty, check your policy too, since many limit vandalism and glass coverage once a home has been vacant for 30 or 60 days.

Will insurance pay for emergency board-up and tarping?

Reasonable costs to protect the property are usually treated as part of the claim, so keep the invoice and photos. Whether you're reimbursed still depends on the claim being covered and on your deductible. We can't promise payment.

Should I tarp my own roof?

We'd rather you didn't. A wet tarp is slick, it can hide skylights and vents, and falls from roofs are a leading cause of construction deaths. Never go up in wind or rain. If you've already put a tarp on, leave it and we'll check it.

How long can a tarp stay on the roof?

A tarp is meant to hold until the roof can be repaired, not for good. The federal Blue Roof program designs its sheeting for about 30 days. We'll tell you how long ours should last and who checks it in the meantime.

Why did firefighters break my windows and cut my roof?

To let out superheated gas and smoke so they could put the fire out and keep it from spreading. Departments open windows by hand when they can. Breaking them is a judgment call made in seconds.

Call about emergency board-up today

Tell us what happened, which windows, doors or parts of the roof are open, whether the fire department has cleared the property, and whether a tree or power line is involved. We'll confirm we can help, give you an arrival window, and explain what the crew will do first.
