Drywall & Ceiling Repair After Water or Fire Damage in Norcross, GA

Walls cut open two feet up, a brown ring on the ceiling, a patch that still shows through the paint. It's hard to tell whether the problem is gone or just hidden. We check the wall with a moisture meter before we close it. Then we replace what's damaged and match the texture and paint as closely as the surface allows. You get the readings first.

Walls cut open or stained after damage? Get help from a team you can trust

Open walls make a house feel unfinished. A stain you painted over is worse. It keeps making you wonder what's still happening inside.

Don't patch it or paint over it yet. Start with a no-pressure check of the wall or ceiling, including whether it's actually dry. We come from our Norcross office to homes across Gwinnett and metro Atlanta, and we answer 24/7.

Can we help with your drywall or ceiling?

Probably. These are the situations we see most:

  • Flood cuts left open after the drying crew pulled their equipment
  • A water spot or bubbling paint on the ceiling under a bathroom or attic line
  • Drywall that's soft or crumbly near the baseboard
  • Smoke-stained walls and ceilings after a kitchen fire
  • An old patch that shows through the paint, or texture that doesn't match

If the ceiling is still wet, dripping or sagging, stay out from under it and see ceiling water damage. That comes before the repair. Smoke odor and soot are handled by smoke damage cleaning.

What our drywall repair service includes

  1. Moisture readings in the wall, ceiling and insulation before anything else.
  2. The repair call. A small patch, a section to the next stud or a full sheet, depending on the damage.
  3. Hang, tape and finish, with joints feathered out wide so they don't show through.
  4. Texture matching for orange peel, knockdown or smooth walls.
  5. Stain-blocking primer anywhere water or smoke left a mark.
  6. Paint to a natural break, like a corner, so you don't see a square of new color in the middle of a wall.
  7. A final look under raking light, because patch lines can disappear straight-on and show up from the side. Annoying, but true.

We handle drywall repair after water or fire damage.

When is it dry enough to close, and who repairs and finishes it?

When the readings say so.

A wall can feel dry on the surface while the framing and insulation inside are still wet. Close it up early and that moisture has nowhere to go. That's how mold starts behind fresh paint.

The drying comes first. The drying crew removes wet material and dries the framing, and the cavity gets confirmed dry with documented readings. If we did the drying, we already have them. If another company did, we'll ask for their logs and take our own readings before we hang a single sheet. If the space isn't there yet, it needs structural drying. Then our own crew hangs, finishes and paints.

Who will arrive, and how we determine what needs attention

Your repair crew is our in-house team, working with our on-staff general contractor.

They'll read moisture in the walls, ceiling and insulation and decide what stays and what's replaced. They'll tell you why. In older homes, they check before cutting. Textured ceilings and joint compound from before 1980 can contain asbestos, and paint in homes built before 1978 can contain lead. In those cases we arrange asbestos testing and lead checks first.

Cutting out damaged drywall

Clear information about pricing, documentation and next steps

The price depends on how much board is replaced, ceilings versus walls, the texture type, how far paint has to run to blend, and any testing an older home needs. You approve a written, itemized scope before work starts.

For a claim, we provide moisture readings and photos from before close-up and after. We can't promise an invisible repair. Texture and aged paint don't always match perfectly. Painting to a corner usually gets closest. We also can't promise what your insurer pays, including whether it covers painting the whole room. If insurance pays less than the invoice, you're responsible for the difference. That's why documentation matters, and why it helps to use a company that works claims with every major carrier, like we do.

Questions people ask us

Does wet drywall always have to be replaced?

No. Drywall soaked by clean water that's still firm can often be dried in place. It comes out if it's soft or crumbling, if the water was contaminated, like a toilet overflow or floodwater, or if mold has started growing. The readings and the condition of the board decide.

Why did the crew cut two feet up the wall?

That's a flood cut. Removing the lower strip lets the wall cavity and insulation dry, and lets everyone see what's behind it. With floodwater, the cut often goes higher so full sheets can go back in.

Can I just paint over a water stain?

Not with regular paint. The stain bleeds back through. Once the source is fixed and the board is dry and solid, it needs a stain-blocking primer first. If the board is soft, it gets replaced.

My popcorn ceiling got wet. Can I scrape it off?

Not until it's tested. Textured ceilings and older joint compound can contain asbestos, and you can't tell by looking. Have it sampled first. One negative sample isn't always the final word, so more than one is usually taken.

After a fire, can smoke-stained walls be cleaned instead of replaced?

Often, if the board isn't charred or heat-damaged. Light soot gets cleaned and sealed with a stain-blocking primer before paint. Charred or warped drywall comes out. We'll show you which is which.
