Smoke & Odor Removal in Norcross, GA

It's exhausting when a smell comes back after scrubbing and a rented machine. Most of the time, the source is still in the pad, insulation or framing. We find it, remove what has to come out, then treat what's left. Before treatment starts, we tell you plainly whether you need to leave the house and when it's safe to return.

A smell that won't go away? Get help from a team you can trust

You don't need to decide anything today. The first visit is an assessment. It starts with finding where the smell is coming from, not selling you a treatment package.

Until then, a few things not to do. Don't run a rented ozone generator with people or pets in the house. Don't paint over a smell. And don't keep adding sprays and candles, because they make it harder for us to trace the source.

We work from our Norcross office across Gwinnett and metro Atlanta. Call when it suits you.

Can we help with the odor in your home or business?

Usually, yes. Odor is a symptom. Something is giving it off, and the work is finding that something. We help with:

  • Smoke smell after a house fire, or after a neighbor's fire came through a shared wall
  • Pet urine that soaked through carpet into the pad and subfloor
  • Odor that stayed after a sewage backup was cleaned up
  • A musty smell with no obvious cause. That can be hidden mold, so we may start with mold inspection
  • Odors in a rental between tenants, from smoking or pets
  • Decomposition odor after an unattended death. The biohazard cleanup goes through a partner we coordinate, and we handle the odor work after

Air fresheners mask the smell for a few hours. Bleach doesn't break down urine. Neither one reaches the pad under the carpet or the insulation behind the drywall.

What our odor removal service includes

  1. Find the source. We check the pad, the subfloor, wall cavities, attic insulation and the ducts until we know what's holding the smell.
  2. Remove what can't be cleaned. Soaked pad and smoky insulation come out, and so does urine-stained drywall. This step does most of the work.
  3. Clean what stays, using chemistry matched to the source, like enzyme cleaners for urine and degreasers for protein smoke residue.
  4. Treat the odor that soaked into the structure. We use foggers and electrostatic sprayers to reach surfaces and gaps a cloth can't, with a deodorizer that fits the source and the space.
  5. Seal affected framing, subfloor or drywall with an odor-blocking primer.
  6. Clean the HVAC if it's spreading the smell, handled by a duct-cleaning partner we coordinate.
  7. Verify. We check again with the house closed up and warm, because that's when a leftover source shows itself.

If soot is still on the walls, that cleaning comes first, through our smoke damage cleaning service. Mold is handled under mold remediation.

Removing the source, or just masking it?

Masking adds a stronger, nicer smell on top. Removal takes out what's producing the odor. When the source stays, the smell returns, often on hot, humid days when heat drives it out of the materials holding it.

Ozone needs a straight answer. The EPA says ozone can damage the lungs and trigger asthma. At concentrations safe to breathe, it does little to remove odor, and it can react with other chemicals in the air to create new ones. Higher concentrations are sometimes used in unoccupied buildings after fires, with controls so no person or pet is exposed. It also wears down rubber and fabric. I don't like vague ozone advice, because vague is how people end up using it wrong.

So before any treatment, we tell you whether it's meant for occupied spaces. If it isn't, people and pets leave, and we confirm the space is ventilated and checked before anyone returns. We don't give re-entry times over the phone. In an apartment or townhome, we account for shared walls and the neighbors' air, too.

Who will arrive, and how we determine what needs attention

An IICRC-certified technician from our Norcross team walks the space and maps where the smell is strongest, room by room. They'll check behind outlet covers on affected walls, under carpet edges and inside return ducts, then the attic.

Before any work, they'll show you what they found and explain the method they'd use, plus any limits on being in the house during treatment. You decide from there.

Clear information about pricing, documentation and next steps

The cost depends on what has to be removed, how much area is affected, which treatment method fits and how many equipment days it runs, plus any sealing. A small pet area and a whole house of smoke odor are very different jobs. You get a written scope that names the method and lists each step, and you approve it before anything starts.

We provide photos of the source, notes on what was removed and itemized invoices. Odor after a covered fire is usually part of the fire claim. Pet odor is commonly excluded. We can't promise what your policy covers. If insurance pays less than the invoice, you're responsible for the difference. That's why documentation matters, and why it helps to use a company that works claims with every major carrier, like we do.

Questions people ask us

Why does the smoke smell keep coming back after cleaning?

Because something still holds it. Smoke settles into insulation, wall cavities, ducts and the back side of drywall, and surface cleaning doesn't reach there. Heat and humidity push it back out, which is why it's worse on a warm afternoon. Removing or sealing the source is what stops it.

Is it safe to run an ozone machine in my house?

The EPA says ozone can damage your lungs and worsen asthma, and at levels safe to breathe it does little to remove odors. In EPA testing, consumer units pushed indoor levels well past health limits even when used as directed. We don't recommend running one yourself, and we don't give DIY run times.

Can we stay home while you treat the odor?

It depends on the method. Some treatments are designed for occupied spaces, and others mean people and pets stay out until the space is ventilated and checked. We'll tell you which one we're using and the re-entry steps before we start.

Can you get pet urine smell out without replacing the floor?

Sometimes. Urine usually soaks through carpet into the pad and then the subfloor. The pad almost always has to go. A lightly affected subfloor can often be cleaned and sealed, but badly soaked particleboard is usually cut out and replaced.

Will insurance pay for odor removal?

Odor from a covered fire is usually handled as part of the fire claim. Pet odor is commonly excluded on standard homeowners policies, and sewage odor depends on whether you have a water backup endorsement. We can't promise coverage, but we'll document the cause for your adjuster.

Do air fresheners or bleach help?

They cover the smell for a while. Bleach doesn't neutralize urine, and fresheners just add a second scent on top. Once the fragrance fades, the original odor is still there.

Call about odor removal today

Tell us what the smell is like, when it started, what you've already tried and whether anyone is living in the space, including pets and neighbors on the other side of a shared wall. We'll confirm whether it's something we handle, find a time that works and explain what the technician will check first.
